Last Chance for Existance

Another academic year draws to an end, another set of committee members sits their finals, reads their results and leaves Cambridge for pastures new. Well, nearly all. This year, we loose the services of Graham James (Secretary) and Jonathan McAllister (Visit's Secretary), although Graham may be around next year to lend a hand.

As you will no doubt be very aware, the last few years has seen barely any recuitment at all and so the new committee is similar to the old with the same President, Junior Treasurer and (and this is the really important news!) the same Journal Editor, albeit from the place where the prevailing colour of blue is distinctly darker. So once again, we have had to call upon J.Brian Carter to help out as Secretary, a post he and Mark Waller held jointly four years ago.

As I often remark, we owe a great deal to Mark and Brian for dedicating alot of their often scarce and precious time to the survival of the club as we know it.

I think it is fairly safe to say that if we do not manage to recruit more than one or two active members in this coming October, we shall have to sit down and think very hard indeed about how we want the club to exist, if at all, in the future. Hence, the title I have given to this editorial is no joke: this is the last chance for the existance of the club in its present form.

If it is decided that the club shall cease to organise trips and meetings, I am sure that we will endeavour to continue to publish Eagle once a term and, of course, have an Annual Dinner. The committee is very aware that this journal and the Annual Dinner are institutions that life members look forward to and rely on to keep in contact with other members. All is not lost yet. We will keep you posted.
